Creating a custom app
Turn your own API into an app Zenning can use, with custom capabilities and fine-grained permissions.
When to create a custom app
Custom apps are for tools your team already has that are not in the App Directory — an internal API, a niche SaaS product, or a homegrown system. Once built, a custom app behaves exactly like a normal app: it has tools, triggers, and connections.
Creating a custom app
- 1
From the App Directory tap Create App.
- 2
Give the app a name and a short description.
- 3
Write Instructions describing when and how Zenning should use the app.
- 4
Add one or more capabilities — each one represents an action Zenning can take. Provide the method, URL, headers, and any body parameters.
- 5
Set permissions: choose whether the app is personal, attached to specific workspaces, or available to selected people.
- 6
Tap Create to save — the app is now in your directory.
Editing a custom app
- 1
Open the App Directory and filter to custom apps.
- 2
Tap your app, then Edit.
- 3
Change the name, description, instructions, or capabilities as needed.
- 4
Save your changes — active employees will pick them up on the next run.
Tip: Use the capability preview to try your custom app before saving. It is much faster than publishing and finding an issue later.
